This is number 13 in my series of Earth-2 Superman fan fiction. This character is the Quicksilver Kid II, a legacy villain and son of the classic Golden Age Superman villain, the Quicksilver Kid (who was in reality the Roman God Mercury who had been awoken during the bombing of Italy during WWII). The Quicksilver Kid II is a foe of the Earth-2 Superman's son Clark Kent, Jr. during his time as the Earth-2 Superboy. To do this figure, I first took a DC Universe Classics Young Justice Superboy figure and, using the boil and pop method, removed the head and arms. Next, I repeated the boil and pop method process on a DC Universe Classics Signature Series Freddy Freeman/Captain Marvel, Jr. and attached his arms (minus the hands) to the Superboy body. With the arms now attached, I used a little paint remover on the Superboy body to remove the “S” symbol and the gray lines of the solar suit, and then commenced a full repaint of the bodysuit in Testors Model Masters Flat White and the wristbands in Testors Model Masters Gold. Once the paint had dried, I gave the entire body two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I used my Dremel to sand down the ball joint attached to the Superboy figure's neck into a cylindrical post. Once the cylindrical post was formed, I next used my Dremel to partially hollow out the head of a Toybiz Marvel Legends Young Justice Boxset Asgardian. Next, I mixed up a small batch of Milliput and jammed it into the newly formed cavity inside the head, and, while the Milliput was still soft, I jammed the cylindrical post attached to the neck of the Superboy figure into the Milliput to create a small hole in the center of the head cavity and let it dry. While the Milliput dried, I commenced a full repaint of the head (except for the exposed face) with Testors Model Masters Flat White for the open mask, Testors Model Masters Lizard Brown for the hair, and Testors Model Masters Gold for the wings and tiara. Once all of the paint on the head had fully dried, I gave the entire head (including the exposed face) two generous coats of Flat Clear. While the Flat Clear dried, I took the forearms of the Asgardian figure and sanded the wrist area down into a cylindrical post which I then glued into the Freddy Freeman arms with a little modeling cement. Once the modeling cement had hardened and the hands were firmly set in place in the arms, I commenced a full repaint of the hands (except for the exposed fingers) with Testors Model Masters Burnt Sienna for the gloves and Testors Model Masters Gold for the armored plate on the back of the hands. When the paint on the hands had fully dried, I gave both hands (including the exposed fingers) two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I took the poncho/cape from the Asgardian figure and gave it a full repaint with Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow for the cape portions and Testors Model Masters Gold for the shoulder pads. Once the paint on the poncho/cape was fully dry, I gave it two generous coats of Flat Clear, and then put it in place over the figure's neck and upper torso when the Flat Clear had dried. With all paint work now completed, I glued the Asgardian head in place atop the neck, and made a golden staff for the figure from a DC Direct JLA Series 1 Superman American flag accessory, and TA-DA...the Quicksilver Kid II, nemesis of the Earth-2 Superboy!!!! Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated. ![]() |
