Since we are on the confederacy kick I'll chime in my 2c worth thats actually toy related.
The GI Joe Crosscountry was a southerner who wore the confederate uniform and even had the bars abd stars on his outfit. Crosscountry was NOT a member of Cobra but a GI Joe. The toy was released I believe in the late 80s early 90's and not a word was mention of it. I beleive it was only recently that the whole Confederate flag makes you evil thing came around, becasue if not why would Hasbro had put that on achildren toy?
I guess my point is that a flags a flag and the war is over. If you dwell on such trivial things such as that then you are no better than the people that you say are oppressing you by showing the flag. Nobodies gonna be happy or like everything in the world and we are not expected to.

yeah commando it is a fine looking figure and Rpetras I'd love to see that hero you got! Soul, I'm not angry or offended I just wanted to make sure I gave the confederacy a voice in the matter and clear a few things up. Did not mean to seem like I was blasting you so for that I apologize, I guess the wounds are still tender here in this country - in the south.

First 616, that is a FINE looking figure and good use of peg warmers (the box sets are languishing at my local KB)
Nice job.
Second 'monk, excellent history lesson. I remember many of those points from HS history class (which was longer ago than I care to think about!)
I have a "confederate themed" hero that I should post.

. I now have a very diferent out look on the situation, no longer black and white if you excuse the pun.
but on the plus side I have learned something today
ps I'm reading all this deep history stuff compleatly fogeting the original subject and then:
"that white is smooth you spary him or hand paint?"
very funny
but back to business its a great figure and I apolagise for any offence I corsed I will endever to learn more about the subject before I speak
I bet hed have an accent though
peace

oh and one more then I'll let y'all stew on this un...
The emancipation proclaimation ONLY freed slaves in southern states...not the yankee states that still had slavery - check it out, it's a public document.
but it's a neat looking figure just the same!

OK well as the resident confederate here on the Figure realm, let me set a few things straight 'fore ye get ma' dander up...
1) There were more slavery abolishionists that fought for the confederacy than the Federal Army.
2) Not all confederates were evil or racists.
3) Not all confederates owned slaves even though such yankee greats as George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson did...
4) When the American Civil War Broke out it was over State's Rights and Export Tarriffs not slavery. England was buying textiles from the confederate states but when the federal government jacked the export tarriffs up too high, the English went to India to get Cotton destroying the southern economy. There were laws in place limiting the amount of manufacturing "allowed" in southern states prior to the outbreak of the American Civil War. When the North could not get enough volunteers for the war, Lincoln (a racist by the way - he wanted to ship all people of color back to Africa weather they were from there or not!) read the emancipation proclaimation in hopes that slaves would escape and join the army of the Potomac to help the cause. Unfortunately, those slaves escaped and wound up working in foundries where they had to buy all their clothes, tools and equipment keeping them in debt to the owners of the foundries where the working conditions were often lethal. The north was getting soundly beaten in the first few years of the war.
5) More free African Americans fought for the confederacy than the Federal Army.
6) the "Stars and Bars" aka Dukes of Hazard flag was actually a Naval flag for the first 3 years of the war. The ACTUAL flag of the confederacy was a blue flag with a giant white star in the center known as the "Bonnie Blue Flag". Wave a "Stars and bars" in this country and you get labeled a racist and or a terrorist.
7) It was considered murder in the confederate states to kill a slave - when an African American was killed in a foundry or powder plant, it was an "accident".
I have 8 Male ancestors that fought for the Confederacy. NONE of them ever owned or operated slaves. So please, remember that there are two sides to every conflict and both sides tend to embellish a bit when it comes to who was wronged more. Slavery was wrong and should have been abolished long before the war but that's not what that war was about, it was just a clever tactic on the part of a desperate man to declare it so over half way through the war. Remember that the victor writes the history books and educates the new generations. We certainly did that after the American Revolution...
