Skids first appeared in X-Factor Vol. 1 #7 (August 1986) and is a member of the Morlocks, a group of disenfranchised mutants who live in the sewers and abandoned subway tunnels beneath New York City. Most Morlocks voluntarily (or, in some cases, involuntarily) took on inhuman appearances at the hands of the Morlock facial sculptor, Masque. Skids' mutant force field protected her from Masque's power, allowing her to maintain her normal appearance. This led to resentment from some Morlocks making her an outcast among a community of outcasts.
