Plague first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #169 (May 1983) and joined the Morlocks, a group of disenfranchised mutants who live in the sewers and abandoned subway tunnels beneath New York City. Plague's mutant ability allowed her to spread lethal diseases through touch. This power led her to be saved by Apocalypse during the Mutant Massacre and he augmented her powers and she subsequently served him as his Horseman Pestilence.
