So this contest was one I debated for a while on what to do. My schedule this round has been hectic to say the least. New job, and just coming out of the team contest I had very little time to actually work on it I barely made the deadline. Paint in the photos is still wet. I was in such a rush I entered it twice once as a normal fig and then again as part of the contest cause I had made an error when entering the first time. Thanks for catching the post guys I am assuming Coder but who ever made sure that this entry was posted correctly Thank you. ANyway I have been working on this idea for awhile now. But I had difficulty actually working on this fig. Not because of difficulty just time. But I was making a statue version of Darkseid and decided that this would be my entry for this contest. As we all know Apokalypse is ruled by the Monster God Darkseid and he is as vain as he is powerful. Each statue is rumored to be extra eyes for the dark god so that he may watch and punish his subject and maintain his will. His visage statues are littered across the planet as a reminder that he has conquer every soul under the shadows of these monoliths. Many pray and beg prostrating in front of these statues of the dark god. So I made one to show his vanity and good looks to all. Here is The newest monolith statue of the DARK GOD OF APOKALYPSE DARKSEID.
Well Thank you guys. I appreciate the comments. Actually he has a hammered look I used a hammer spray that gives a lot of texture the problem is as I was crunching to get the entry in the paint is still wet in these photos so the effect is not as visible. I thought about granite texture paint but I have a comic that mentions that granite is uncommon substance on apocalypse. So I decided statues must be made of metals. So hence the reason for the route I took.
I agree that a more somber gray or brown color might have looked better, given the subject matter, but I'm sure even Darkseid likes a nice shiny statue or two. I like that you created something that can be re-used as a prop for displays/dioramas with other figures, not just an entry for the contest.
Oh, yeah, good call. They sell granite paint @ Home Depot, has the tecture & everything. That may be something to consider, However, this custom still stands excellently on its own.
