Chris Snow and Orson (Independent Comics) Custom Action Figure
Well, what an adventure this one turned out to be. I am learning so many new things with each custom. This time it was patience and paint thickness. First though let's talk character. If you haven't read Fear Nothing and Seize the Night by Dean Koontz, holy cow they are wicked awesome. Dynamite now has TPB's of the comic adaptation. The story is about a guy who cannot be exposed to even the smallest amount of UV radiation. He has a dog, Orson and there's all sorts of mysterious shizzle going on in the coastal town he lives in. I just had to put him on the shelf. I went with Mohinder for the street clothes and Andre Ethier for the head. Did a nice little head swap and it was time for paint. And that is where the trouble began. I spent some time deciding exactly what I wanted his skin to look like because he obviously never sees the sun but I didn't want a Cullen or albino. As I was getting that perfect color I wasn't paying attention to how thick my tan had gotten. Thus, when I applied the created flesh tone I just globbed it on there like preschool arts n crafts time. Then I had trouble removing just the paint on his skin and not his body/clothes so I ended up dumping an almost finished figure into the thinner to start all over from scratch. But that's OK. It was fun the first time so why not another go 'round? I carefully mixed my colors for the redo with my latest lesson learned and when I finished both them both I was really stoked to once again bring a character we'd most likely never see in plastic to life. Really really cool. Go read those books and keep on building! Please wait... |
