This one cost me a little bit of my finger. Anyways I started with a regular old cap. I split him open and took off his star, took the buttons off of the jacket thing as well as the boots. After all that was done a repaint was in order. I used the head from a Captain Jack Sparrow figure, modifyed to fit the joint on the neck. I sculpted the hair and painted on the face. The jacket is from a MU Scarlet Spider. I think I've said it before but he's a great figure and I'd totally recommend it for customizing or even just display. The arms are from a military figure at Target, again great figures, less articulation than I'd like, but still good for getting accessories.

ONE MORE THING!! If anyone has any tips on painting jeans or getting good flesh tones, let me know.
Thanks, and have a nice day!

For skin tones, I use what was recommended at the art supply shops, where real portrait painters (I'm in DC, so really-real painters) shop. There's a color called Unbleached Titanium Hue that's like the palest skin tone. You can then either 1) just add Russet Brown or, 2) add yellow and red and white to make any skin tone. To get shading, apply a uniform base coat, then add darker tone (more brown) in the creases, and lighter tone (more white) on high spots: cheeks, nose, chin, forehead. Works for me... For jeans, I mix Cobalt Blue and White pale, and paint a uniform coat. I then add darker tone (more blue) in the creases and hollows, and lighter tone (more white) on the knees and high points where wear occurs. Experiment.

Thanks! As soon as I get the chance, I'll try all of these methods, although they all seem to give the same basic idea. Thank you so much for the tips, and keep on inspiring me and other customizers on the realm with your amazing work!

Hi. Like shinobi said, you could look at the tutorials or follow his advices. But if you let me, I will give you my own self discovered recipes for painting jeand and skin tones.

Jeans: A base coat of the blue color you choose. Second: a wash in black or a much darker blue. Third: A drybrush in the original blue you used for first layer. Fourth: A very, very light drybrush in white only in certain areas of the paints.

Skin tones (caucasian): A base coat of flat flesh tone. Second: a wash in medium skin tone. third: Drybrush in flat again.

Hope this helps, and you can check out my work on painting jeans and skin tones, specially in my wolverine/Logan customs, so you can decide wether to follow my advice or not.

Regards

There's a lot of great tutorials here that may be able to help you with the tips your looking for. However when doing jeans the trick is with the layers. A good base for jeans can be a very dark blue or gray and/or black. Depending on which color you choose just pick a shade lighter in color of blue and drybrush that. And then so on and so forth with lighter colors until you get the color you're aiming for.
As for skin tones, that really depends on exactly what you're going for but if you have a flesh starting color, then you can add white, red, orange, yellow and numerous other colors to make it lighter or darker. I've always found it best to just experiment with colors when trying to find the right flesh color. Hope this helps!
