Up next is a guy i've always wanted to do, but just never really got around to it. With the abundance of large base bodies out right now, i decided i might as well give it a shot. He's all thunderball with sculpted details. I think i went a little overboard on the absorbed materials... i don't think theres anywhere in the world where he'd be touching a tree, magma, a brick wall, and riveted metal in quick succession, but hey... don't ask me, i just work here. He's kind of a combination of sources: the riveted metal was inspired by LCs awesome Creel, the tree leg is inspired by one i really like on this site, the brick arm just because that seems obligatory for him, and the magma leg cause i don't think i've ever seen someone do that before. Enjoy!
What can I say brother . This is an awesome figure! It's a labor of love and it shows.
On a different note... if you want to donate a T-ball to the Loosecollector foundation, I'm sure I will take good care of it... I mean, a really poor kid will take good care of it .
haha, thanks LC. I'm sorry that the part of him that was inspired by your work (the riveted metal) came out the poorest of the textures. As far as T-ball goes, if I see another one while I'm out and about, I'll keep you in mind.
Ain't digging that tree foot - but the tree bark looks awesome on the leg. Creel, if I'm not mistaken, has the power to absorb textures but not actually morph into different shapes. Had you kept the foot and just made it look like tree bark, instead of having the roots coming out, I think would make this custom more solid in design overall. Just like the magma leg - that came out really cool.
Creel is a fun and cartoony dude. There was one time (the only time my poor memory remembers) he touched a mace and he became metal with spikes on him. But more often he just changes texture. Depends on the writer maybe?
haha, yeah, it is weird that his one foot is different. I went with a mixture of reasonings on that: A) on the avengers cartoon that on netflix right now, he changes his shape every now and then (like making his hands into axes or hammers). While I know its not exactly canon, theres some precedent for it, and B) I just liked the one that someone else here did so much that I was willing to take a hit on comic accuracy to homage it. Of course, someone on fwoosh ruined the whole tree leg for me when he said it reminded him of the tree man of java. Poor guy... thats what nightmares are made of.
yeah, what LC said! I guess it doesn't really make sense for the metal part of him to have rivets or the brick to be cut into perfect rectangles with mortar in between... but you just gotta do what feel right man!
Metal spikes, axes, hammers - all very cool looking. Tree roots - not so much, but all our comments (especially those found on fwoosh!) shouldn't really matter if the creator (or client) prefers it just the way it is.
thanks Bart. I covered the leg with a thin layer of hot glue (which I don't think is really noticeable on the finished product), then sculpted the rocks on over it. The paint effect was actually really easy. It was just a layer of red gore, then blood red, then a blazing orange/blood red mix, then that same mix with a lot of sunburst yellow added, then finally that mix again with a bit of white added, which each line of layer getting a little thinner so that the layer beneath it can be seen.
haha, well its really a lot easier than that sounds, especially because the lines don't have to be even, in fact it'd look weird if they were. Really, its just time consuming... really, really time consuming.
That tree effect with the roots is outrageous! Most of us can't even find a T-Ball, yet here you are butchering them! Gotta love customizers! DADDY DON'T CARE!!! Love it!!!!
haha. All I can find is t-ball! My local stores (like 5 targets, 3 trus, and 2 walmarts) have all had at least 1 restock of wave 2, and I have yet to see a Piledriver. Whats going on here? I actually kind of wish I had used a Piledriver. I think that crazy-man grin he has would have been a good look for Crusher.
Stellar piece man. I have something similar in mind and I thought the same thing about too many effects, But what the He11! Gonna have fun with it anyway. Hope it shows as well as this!
yeah man, go nuts on it. How many Absorbing Mans are you going to make anyways? Might as well do as many textures as you want. Thats what I ended up at anyways.
Holy crap W.T.!!! This is such a great use of the base figure, and yet another custom that puts both the toy biz and hasbro ML Creel to shame! I'm a big fan of the sculpt work you put in here to showcase his absorbing abilities! Paints are super tight and really help the sculpts work pop! Sweet work!

Absolutely beautiful!
