Making Darth Maul made me want to do more Star Wars figures, and when i saw a Darth Vader transformer on sale this week I thought i might as well do him next. Btw, that DV transformer is one of the worst toys i've ever had in my hands, just really shoddy design. Fortunately, his head sculpt is great and perfect scale for a 6" figure.
Nothing really completed here, just time consuming. He's almost all a Mattel wrestler, with head and chest control panel thing from the transformer. Everything else is sculpted or cloth. I wanted him to be as accurate (to empire strikes back) as possible, so i went with the robes under the chest plate look, cause i hate how they looked in A New Hope. Unfortunately, a one of the 1/18th Darth Vader toy lied to me about his glove design, so i sculpted ribs on his gloves that aren't on the actual costume, but it doesn't look bad so it doesn't bother me. His shoulder pads are connected to vinyl strips that are under his chest plate, so they move and don't really restrict arm movement at all. Think the 6" IM2 Warmachine. I was going to make the blade on his lightsaber magnetic like on darth mauls, but the transformer came with two lightsabers, so instead I just cut the blade off of one, slapped a magnet in it with a corresponding one on his belt, so he can wear it. I think in the movies he wears it with the emitter facing up, but eh... i don't care. Enjoy!
spent the last two days playin star wars with my three and seven year old daughters(who have onbly seen bits from the originals)I can't wait to show this to them, they are gonna flip!the force is indeed strong with you, even if you have gone to the dark side lol, awesome,no scratch that, outstanding rendition of darth, really really awesome
Nice work! You really got to this one quickly! Nice work on the banded leather suit sculpting, it worked out well, and it must of been a pain! I like what you've done with the sabres for your 6" star wars stuff too! keep it up!
Thanks man. He came together fairly quickly, but you're right, the jumpsuit was a total pain. Its gotta be the main reason people decide not to do Vader customs.
I've been looking for years for a DV head that's right for 6" scale. A lot of people have used the Epic Force head which I think looks too small. I was considering using a DV pez dispenser at one point. It looks like ya hit the nail on the head with the one you used.
The figures contained in the Custom Showcase are not for sale by Figure Realm, and the creators of the customs are no way affiliated with Figure Realm.
