Mokoi (literally, "evil ghost") are wicked forest spirits in the mythology of the Murngin Aborigines of Northern Australia. The Murngin believe that death is seldom natural; accidents and illness are generally directly attributed to the activities of these creatures, who are invoked by evil sorcerors to kill their enemies and wreak havoc in the world. Turnabout is fair play though, as good shamen will often summon Mokoi to strike down practicioners of black magic (as long as they get to ruin somebody's day, Mokoi don't seem too picky about who employs them.) These spirits are also known to kidnap, and devour, children at night.
While doing research for this mythical character, I didn't run across any mention of Mokoi actually using boomerangs, so, I'm guessing that the artists whose work I based my figure on simply gave the Mokoi one because the weapon is widely recognized and associated with Australia.
This figure was made from scratch in a single night (without the aid of black magic.) The Mokoi is something I've considered making a toy out of in the past, and, being a mythical entity that the Murngin tell stories about, it fits into the fairy tale/folklore theme of this contest, so, I figured why not? Gotta make sure I keep him locked up at night though, so he doesn't eat the kids...
