Seeing as how Diamond Select kinda dropped the proverbial ball when it came to rounding out its collection of Star Trek: the Original Series figures (I'm still waiting for them to finally release their "planned" figures of Tholian Web McCoy, Nurse Chapel, Yeoman Rand, the M-113 Salt Vampire, deluxe Mirror Kirk with I.S.S. Entrprise command chair, and the Romulan Commander played by Mark Lenard in "Balance of Terror"), I set out to make a few characters of my own. First up is Commodore Robert April, Federation Ambassador at Large and First Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Commodore April was first seen in the final episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, "The Counter-Clock Incident".
The figure himself was a pretty easy, straight-forward custom. I took an extra Diamond Select Star Trek Dress Uniform Kirk figure, and using the boil and pop method, removed his head and hands. Next, again using the boil and pop method, I removed the head and hands from an extra Art Asylum Enterprise Series 1 Captain Jonathan Archer figure, and attached them to the Kirk body (I used the Archer head mostly because Scott Bakula's face looks much older than he actually is< and with the hair painted, it cinched it). Once the head had fully cooled off and was firmly attached in place on the new body, I commenced a full repaint of the hair and eyebrows in white to match the visual (included with the pictures of my custom) of the commodore from the animated series. Once the paint had dried, ta-da...Federation Ambassador at Large, Commodore Robert April!
Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated.
