Dark Knight Returns Batman (Batman) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:40615
Name:Dark Knight Returns Batman
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Batman
Creator:grungethemovie
Date Added:July 6, 2012
Base Figure:NECA Guile
Height:6.50 inches
I've always wanted a DKR figure, like, forever (hate you Nolan for taking "DKR" for you!)
never got the DC Direct one, though XD (well, not really any problem with him)
I tried to do what a "NECA" version of him would be like, with the linework to evoke the comics look, just like the classic TMNT
and yeah, i'm a sucker for mixed media, so, pleather cape wired (with twisties) for him too

You truly nailed this custom. There is nothing you, or anyone could do to it to make it any better than it is.

I dig this thing. Not only do I usually approve of a lot of the overlay sculpt work that you do as far as musculature is concerned but I feel like here you definitely maintained an artistic style to the piece as well.
This is damned nice. I think its my favorite DK Bats that I've ever seen.

thanks a lot!
to represent (and therefore it´s of uber importance to mantain) an artistic style is my main concern in sculpting a figure, well, at least I try XD
I'm very glad people apreciate it

Im using a Series One Hulk (I believe) & I've found a good base with the right size (Of height) But Im sculpting over him to be larger like in The comics, Im using a WWE Deluxe Undertaker because of the height & articulation, I'll be sure to checkout The Wrecking Crew, Thanks for your help, any tips on sculpting it? Im going for the Arkham City look of TDK Returns because of its realistic touch, So far I've done his Torso , neck, & thighs, Any Good head for him?

Oh & how did you sculpt over the joints for the shoulders while maintaning the articulation?
avatar
grungethemovie -
Tuesday, October 9, 2012
neca sf are fairly easy to pop out the shoulders, if you pay close attention, you'll see that I widened the shoulder distance also

if you're using a figure that doesn't allow that easily, if the hole does not have space for larger shoulders, you can re-do the socket, but only if you're an adventurous fellow, cause it goes against the rule "never compromise the joints"
the thing is, you gotta (retorical way of saying I do) study the buck you have to better accommodate the silhouette you're going for your character
on figures that the shoulder joint is structural, I usually choose them by the shoulder, that's why I suggested wrecking crew, they got huge balls (or savage dragon)

Thanks for the tips, lol when you said ML Wrecking crew had big balls (sorry I just had to say it, not thinking wrong) & I'll try to do what you suggested

oh god.... I can't believe how awesome this looks, congratulations it's a wonderful custom, the only bad thing is that with the amount of work on the figure it would be impossible for me to try and make one for myself! I really love it, DKR is one of my favorite comics and my favorite batman for sure

Tuesday, July 10, 2012
thank you, I sculpted the creases and first tried to get them with a wash, didn't work, so I ended up just drawing the lines with a super thin brush
