White Ape of Mars (Marvel Legends) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:41010
Name:White Ape of Mars
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Marvel Legends
Creator:GrownNerd
Date Added:July 18, 2012
Base Figure:ML Savage Hulk, DCUC Validus
Height:10.75 inches
Part of my John Carter of Mars series. This one took some time to do because I was experimenting with making the lower torso have functional articulation using a big ball magnet, and it was more complex than I thought and I had to revise on the go.

That's some seriously good body Frankenstein'n there! I don't think I've ever seen a customizer approach a four-armed character in quite this way before, and it worked beautifully; well done!

By the way, I never commented on the piece....Excellent work! I would rather have had this than those giant blind sloths that they were dumb enpugh to call "Apes" in the movie.

You put this together so well!!! The big obvious stuff is great but the subtle things like mimicking the chest veins from the lower torso on the upper torso, and things like that which really show how polished this is! The use of off whites to get tones worked out great here too. Good stuff!

Fellow customizers, this man, GrownNerd, is one the reasons I have kept on keeping on. Way back several years ago when I first started dabbling more and more into customizing, I was looking for images of something I was working on and happened upon a GN custom figure and just threw my hands up in the air and said, "I give up, there's no way I can do something like this!" and I just quit for a few years and tried to forget about customizing because I knew I didn't have it in me. Being a truck driver at the time I knew I wouldn't be able to do nothing. It wasn't until 2007 I dedicated myself to honing the craft and turned my truck into a mobile workstation and buying up supplies left and right. I had plastic drawers and tubs in my truck full of fodder. I figured out how to run my airbrush off the airsupply of my truck and didn't even have to worry about moisture in the airlines because of the airdryer the truck had to keep mositure out of the lines! I started reading tutorials and set my mind to make it happen... Anyways, to make a long story short, I owe a big thanks to GrownNerd, because he was an inspiration to me at a time I was about to give up forever because the images of his awesome customs stuck in my mind. I'm sorry about hijacking this post, but had to tell this story...

Now about the custom....
WOW!!!!!!!! It's breathtaking and if I had the funds I would definitely buy the whole set of these one of a kind pieces of art! Thank you so much for your contributions and for sharing these! I feel like a kid again looking at these. I wish I were so I could have the imagination to set up battles with these figures and play for hours and hours!

Damn, Freddie, that's some high praise. Thank you.

But tell the truth, you got back into customizing because you wanted to turn your truck into a swank chick magnet of a customizing studio, didn't you? A customizing workshop out the back of a truck has got to be the coolest workshop of any of us. Heck, you can drive the truck to family vacations and still do customs while there.

The Validus upper torso and head look amazing bro! The fact that you kept the top halves articulation just makes your work here that much more awe-inspiring! Truely innovative customizing GN!
