The idea behind this Kryptonian character was that he survived a ship crash, only to be stranded on a planet orbiting a red sun. His weapons and shield were intended to be cobbled together from the remains of his ship's hull, and what material he could forge from the planets resources. This was an original customer design, the third in a series of Superman's ancestors called "House of EL". ::Recipe: -ML Cable (main figure, resculpted) -Hair was spliced/resculpted from a DCD Superman, beard sculpted in Greenstuff/kneedite, with his cybernetic red 'eye' being a small plastic jewel. -Styrene cut into small glossy black Superman Diamond-shaped 'solar collectors'. -Weapon holder straps cut from various GI JOe harnesses. -NECA Conan (recut/resculpted 'stiched leather' soft plastic pieces for his red harness) -Kryptonian Axe (Scratch built from an Armored Core Axe blade, Styrene, magnetic metal strip, and a sealed wooden handle. Spray-sealed with Citadel Matte Spray. -Kryptonian Spear (Scratchbuild from a Mcfarlane blade combined with a metal knitting needle. Resculpted, and painted and sealed the same way as the axe. -HML Black Knight (shield, heavily modified/sanded down with magnetic attachments on the back. Matching magnets were installed in each forearm, and on his back. Additional magnets were installed under the figure's black weapon-loops during sculpting. -Decals (for the shield) were custom printed by a fellow I tracked down online who owned an ALPS Decal printer which was capable of printing opaque decals on white water slide paper. The resulting decals were very vibrant, and wonderful to work with. I was really happy with how smooth the paint came out on this piece, and how durable the Tamiya spray paint was on the accessories (Axe, Spear handel, and Shield). They survived the rub-test, and repeated test-fittings thanks to a combination of lacquer spray paint and Citadel's Spray sealant (matte). While I use Mr. Hobby Clear Coat more often now, Citadel's spray is an excellent choice for non-soft plastics. The whole figure was painted up with Vallejo and Tamiya acrylics (with leveling thinner), sealed with liquid-type Krazy glue, and sealed further with Vallejo matte/glossy varnishes. This figure was created based on a customer's original design back in December 2010/January 2011. ![]() |
