So this is a custom I guess I've been planning for years now, back when I was still collecting the Marvel Legends line. I just couldn't bring myself to buy the actual ML Toad (I don't see how anyone paid money for it) and after seeing the great work people on the realm had done with the ML Doc Ock, I knew I wanted something similar.

However, a few years ago I made the jump from the Legends line to the Universe one (mostly due to space issues) and Toad became much more problematic. There isn't really a "Fat" base in the Universe line... a few customizers have done decent jobs adapting the stockier body base for Toad, but they didn't ever work quite as well as the legends customs.

Well, after buying the SHS Dark-Beast variant for my custom Beast, I did a little bit of research into the line. I wasn't as impressed with the line as some collectors are (there are some good figures, but there are some bad ones too.) but then I came across the Doc Ock figure... which looks almost exactly the same as its Legends counterpart.

So, with a proper toad base in hand, I set about making a proper Toad custom. I cut off the Octopus arms, sanded away the stupid looking bowl cut, and used an x-acto blade to cut away most of the glove and boot flares. I then started sculpting on the different details, including beefing up the lower legs so the cutoff for the boot wouldn't be as noticeable.

The design I ended up with is mostly just the classic, Jack Kirby Toad design, but with a few modern touches like the goggles (I could have dremeled them off and sculpted eyes but... eh), green-ish skin tone, and dirtier colors.
