Here is my take on the Super Adaptoid, as rendered in the epic giant-size fashion of Stevid and others. An android created by AIM and originally powered by a shard from the Cosmic Cube, the adaptoid is devoid of emotions, expressions, or even a FACE. This monstrosity once impersonated Captain America while infiltrating the Avengers. He fought the Mimic to a standstill in which a feedback loop rendered both temporarily powerless. My rendition recounts the time the android spent in the Negative Zone. This has always been one of my favorite villains.
Simple recipe, I took a Marvel Legends Icons Silver Surfer and sculpted tons of details with Apoxie Sculpt and then added a few extra parts. All peg holes have been sculpted over and extra bulk sculpted into the musculature. The Annihilus wings are a deviation from the usual recipes of this figure, which incorporate the wings of the ML Wasp or SMC Beetle from the smaller scale. I made the shield from half of the surfboard and the sword is from GI JOE. Painted everything up using many wash and drybrush accented acrylics and then sealed. No less than five different greens were used on this thing, see if you can point 'em out! Thanks for looking!
*Update* Thanks everyone who voted. I'm proud to join the small number of artists who've taken a stab at this android. Perhaps one day I'll take another shot at churning one out as cool as the Stevid, Argenta or Eniam Rej versions of the toon. Great job GreenSkin on running such an outstanding contest theme. Like many of you, I dropped so many 4s and 5s in this it was crazy.
Thanks, NeCro. Very much appreciated! You know, I realized after the contest ended that I should have included some 6" Avengers in battle with him in one of the pics. Ah well, it'll give me an excuse to do some A.C.B.A. action shots once I get my new workbench installed next month!
