A living candlestick that appeared in Disney's 1991 Beauty and the Beast animated film. Like the rest of the Beast's servants, his maitre d', Lumiere, was changed, from a human into a household item, when an enchantress cursed the heartless prince and everyone inside his castle. Lumiere, and his colleagues, are trapped in their unnatural forms until the day that the Beast can break the spell by learning how to love and finding a woman to return his affections, despite his horrific physical appearance.
This figure was made entirely from scratch in one afternoon/evening and finished with acrylic paint. It has twelve points of articulation (flames x 3, neck x 2, shoulders x 2, wrists x 2, mid-torso, and waist x 2). While I can't say that I'm particularly fond of Beauty and the Beast, I do like animated/possessed everyday objects. Lumiere came to mind while I was brainstorming cartoon characters I might want to create for this contest; his unusual design appealed to me and he seemed like an interesting and challenging thing to make, so that's what I decided to do.
