Samson and Goliath (DC Universe) Custom Action Figure
I'm 37 years old. If you're in my age range then it's likely that Hanna Barbera played a role in your childhood entertainment. Some of their characters have been so well loved they have gotten toys or even toy lines based around them. But not all have been so lucky. Enter Young Samson and Goliath! The predecessor to He-Man, Samson was a teenage boy that traveled the country on his moped with his dog, Goliath, riding with him. When trouble struck, as it inevitably would, the teenager would strike his wrist bands together and transform in to the larger, musclebound warrior and then aiming his bands at his dog transformed the dog in to a mighty lion. Sure, it didn't make a ton of sense, but it was from the 60s and cartoons weren't quite highbrow entertainment! So here we have my rendition of the pair in the heroic forms. The shoulder discs are sanded to keep paint rub to a minimum possibility while the client poses and displays the classic hero! The hair, the boot tops and the collar are all sculpted, the ties on the stomach are found objects, the belt was a Conan belt that has sat in my fodder bin since 2008 waiting to finally find a use. Goliath is made from a soft, sponge/foam filled lion from Michael's with sculpted mane and facial features. Both are painted with some acrylic paints and finished with matte varnishes to help protect the paint jobs during handling. I'm posting this now but will try to add more pics to it later since it's almost 2 and I do need some sleep. Please wait... |
