Hoggle is a dwarf who is a resident of the Goblin King's Labyrinth. He has various odd jobs, such as exterminating fairies, and collects shiny objects. He has a callous and gruff exterior but through friendship, learns he has a soft heart underneath. In the movie he is a combination of real life, costumed little person and a ridiculously detailed animatronic head - built and puppeteered by the Henson crew.
Hoggle's head is scratch sculpted and mounted on an Ewok body that was completely sculpted over. The proportions were spot on since the Ewoks were also costumed little people. Feet came from a Child Anakin figure, sculpted over to create the old-school shoes and tiny laces. All the collectables on his belt/sash are also sculpted. His hands were stolen from a Bib Fortuna figure.
There are tons of folds sculpted into his sleeves and blouse but the white got blown out in these pics. May repost some more "dramatically" lit shots later.
I gotta say, brother, that I was working on a custom where I needed to sculpt over most of a Star Wars Ewok figure, but I left it on the side for now as I've been working on other projects (& not to mention that all the sculpt work can be intimidating at first ). Seeing this beautiful work-of-art has truly inspired me to tackle that project once again. Thanks, bro.
It's hard working at this scale but pretty gratifying when it works out! What character are you working on? Something from Willow or the Hobbit, maybe from Legend?
I wish I could say, my friend, but let's just say that it's a secret project meant to surprise a fellow Realmer I will, however, let you know when it's done.
Thanks - not as detailed as the Neca figure but I recon that is forgiveable since mine is half the size of that figure and was sculpted actual size (pretty sure the Neca version was sculpted big and scaled down mechanically).
WOW!!! The entire figure is amazing, but his face is mind blowing!!! Another masterpiece to your collection and specially to FigureRealm. Thank you so much for sharing...
Thanks man. Knock on wood but I'm on a sculpting streak right now, as I got this head sculpted right on the first pass just like the Ludo head. I'm learning to take my time with it, building up the features in layers - curing as I go.
This is brilliant! I've had some of these on my "to-do" list for quite awhile. You may have just inspired me enough to get started on them! Great choice in base figures!
