The story goes that Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza created Deadpool as a rip-off of Deathstroke, and he wasn't subtle about it either: Deathstroke's real name is "Slade Wilson" and Deadpool's is "Wade Wilson". It was only after later writers like Joe Kelly, Christopher Priest and Gail Simone put their spin on Deadpool that he became the fourth wall-breaking, over the top, goofy/deadly merc with a mouth we all know and love.
