Say hello to Tony Stark's new armor - the upgraded mk. 42X! It's the love child of the 42 and 4 armors, which means great mobility and power combine with a superior color scheme!
Yeah, I hate how the 42 looks, that's one awful design. Mark IV for the win.
This guy was painted with Model Masters gold and clear red; repulsors and eyes consit of black rims, custom blue outer layers and flat white centers. I've finished him with my new experimental paint wash. The shading in all the nooks and crannies looks better than I expected.
Hi, Love the repaint! I've ordered some testors model master paints to do a similar repaint. This will be my first attempt at a complete repaint and I'm a bit anxious. Wondering if you did a base coat of white or grey or if one or two coats of the desired colour was effective?
Thanks, kda! There were no special base coats used here, they're not all that necessary when you know how to use paints properly. This particular fig was completely painted gold and then covered with clear red. Let me know if you need any help
Personally, I'd use Stop Light Red, I think it suits Iron Man more. You just need to remember that those paints are matte/flat (at least I think so). If you want a shiny finish, you'd have to use a gloss varnish to make it happen.
Yeah, they're all gloss or semi gloss except the oxide red which is flat. The oxide red is inspired by the marvel now iron man.
Yeah given your advice I think ill go for stop light red. Still undecided on gold or brass. But do you think the complete coat of gold then paint the red like you did or just paint the desired final colors directly?
I painted him completely gold because I used a clear red paint. That way it became this rich metallic red you see here. With your paints, just do the final colors.

I've ordered four colours
Testors Model Master acryl
Gold 4671
Brass 4672
Stop light red 4633
Oxide red 4882
I'm leaning towards a brass/oxide red combo.
Do you think I should do what you did, paint everything brass, then paint over those parts with the oxide red?

Thanks heaps for the advice. I hopefully it goes well.
I finished my repaint of the marvel select mark 42.
Thanks for the advice regarding paints and approaches.
