This was my entry for the Secret Santa this year, this was for FitzJedi, and I hope he enjoys it. I always wanted to do a 70's Zod, and I LOVED Terence Stamp as Zod, but I always felt his physical presence was lacking, he's not a physically threatening dude. I tinkered around with trying to make him more like Terence Stamp, was originally going to use the new '66 Riddler body, but it just looked ridiculous up next to a DCUC Superman, so I tried to make the costume as accurate as possible, but make the figure more threatening. I used a Dr. Midnight base, Alan Scott Arms, Hawk lower legs, and a Punisher head. I sculpted the boot tops and modified the shirt, then cut strips of whoopie cushion to glue on for the leathery looking spots on Zod's outfit. I modified the Punisher hair to give him a receding hairline and sculpted the beard, then painted. Zod's design is kind of plain, so I didn't realize he would be as much work as he was, but I ended up with a figure I really love, and I hope Fitz loves him too!
This BAD-BOY is sitting PROUDLY in the glass case with my Hot Toys Christopher Reeve Superman, and Hot Toys Brando Jor EL!! Thanks so much for this awesome take on an ICONIC character, my friend. I love the creative license you took to make a WARHORSE version, and the whoopee cushion usage may put this guy in a category unto himself! I'm TRULY happy to have him in my personal collection!!
That is EXACTLY what I was trying to do. I love Terence Stamp, but he is not in any way imposing, I wanted him to have the costume of Stamp's Zod, but the presence of Man of Steel Zod. Of course, as others have mentioned he ended up looking like Non, granted non has a bushier beard and more hair, but the resemblance is obvious, I'm surprised I didn't see it before.
Thanks Jedd, and I swear by whoopie cushions, they are cheap, strong, thin, and they are super easy to work with, superglue dries really fast on them, they are a great solution for things like this.
Even though you used Dr Midnite and he's a slender body, I too thought that you captured the look of the much larger Non and thought that's who it was meant to be. Either way, its awesome looking. ~phin
Whoopie cushions, man you guys never cease to amaze with your ideas. It does look more like Non, but nonetheless a great figure. This Zod came out nice. Great work.
Thank you my friend! I thought it would be cool, glad you like it. I wish I had used a different head now, but I still stand behind him, he's a quality figure, just looks like the wrong dude!!!!
Thanks Templar! All the work in the world and it still comes back to part selection, I was looking for a head that looked tough and had an already receding hairline I could modify. It didn't click with me that the broken nose and downturned mouth would make him look like Non, but you are right, it definitely does look like Non. Maybe Fitz can use him as Non and make himself a Zod!
That is so awesome! Really digging this one, man! I must say though, he looks like Zod and Non(from the films) had a baby, definitely more intimidating, physically I love how clean he came out, and the base was a fine choice. Really nice work!
This kicks ass , really think that head is better for the big guy, I think the is nobb. because zod has some grey hair , and some deeper hair line, still looks like one of the two love it
