Michelangelo himself is simply a repaint of the standard figure. I started by removing the belly and belt, then sanding him down and scratching up the joints. After a scrub with soap and water I gave him a coat of green to match the original 1989 figure. The paint is all acrylic. His nunchucks are home made. The ones that come with Mikey are cool and all, but they're very snug in his hands and don't allow for a lot of customization. Instead I took the middle section of the tri-bo that comes with Donatello (4 of them) and used them as the base. I sanded each down then wrapped them in masking tape colored a blue/silver color, then used additional masking tape colored gray for the ends. Finally, I used real chains to make them look awesome. I think they came out pretty cool looking. I don't like the plastic belts that come with the figures since they're tough to paint, so I made my own out of leather strips. The leather and chains all came from Michael's I believe... maybe AC Moore. They're pretty much the same store, so you can't go wrong with either. Finally I attached the belt with super glue, used the holsters from the original belt, also attached with super glue and a super fine permanent marker for the line work in his teeth and on his belly. After giving him a coat of clear sealant (also found at Michael's) Michelangelo was done. I'm pretty proud of this guy, I think he came out great and I really love how bright the Orange in his mask looks. Let me know what you think! ![]() |
