When Castles wife and children are killed in the park accidentally by a member of the Green Lantern Corp Frank's world grew dark. His heart burned with rage as he swore he would make them pay for what he had lost. The anger inside him was so massive that it caught the eye of Atrocitus. He knew with that much rage inside Frank would be the perfect vessel for the Red Light.
At first, Frank refused Atrocitus' offer claiming he didn't need any help to kill. But after Atrocitus demonstrated the Red Rings power by executing a captured Green Lantern Frank smiled and took the ring out of his hand. Once the ring was placed on his finger Frank was completely consumed by the rage that pulsated through his veins.
Now as a Red Lantern Castle wages a one man war against the GLC. Killing with anything and everything he can, including weapons from his past life. When asked why he still used Earth weapons he smiled and said,"Old habits die hard." The few survivors that remain often tell stories of the Red Lantern Punisher and when they try to sleep at night it's him they see in their dreams shouting his oath as he slaughters.

"With blood and rage of crimson red,
Ripped from the corpses of the freshly dead,
Together with our hellish hate,
We'll burn you all--That is your fate!"
