For the Silver Age custom contest I made the most silver of them all, The Silver Surfer.

This alien from planet Zenn-La is quite Zen-like and reflective. And I don’t mean like a mirror (though he is that way too), but in a philosophical way. He has the powers of the stars, travels the universe, and explores new worlds. Yet, he always protects the people of Earth and values humanity.

After making his first appearance as the messenger of Galactus in a Fantastic Four story, the Silver Surfer eventually had his own title in 1968. His sleek design hasn’t changed at all over the years. He’s just a much shinier silver color nowadays and continues to shine with every new artist’s rendition.

I decided to not make him shiny but shady; the way he was drawn in the classic Silver Age comics with dark lines of shading on the body. Artist John Buscema drew Silver Surfer #4 featuring Thor. It has one of my favorite comic book covers of all time.

Most Surfer figures have magnets on the feet. I did the opposite by placing magnets on the board and metal on his feet. I was surprised it worked so well. I added pictures to show parts I used to make the board and to show the magnetic effect.

Board:
It’s built from scratch by using long magnetic strips cut and glued onto aluminum sheet metal and painted silver.

I only positioned it on top of the stand from Toybiz Silver Surfer's board just for taking pictures. But I didn't use any part of the Toybiz board for building the one that I made.
