Custom #: | 58235 | Name: | Teen Titans - Red X Version 2 | Custom Type: | Action Figure | Toy Series: | Teen Titans | Creator: | VincentShaw | Date Added: | February 9, 2014 | Base Figure: | DC Universe Classics Slim Body | Height: | 6.00 inches | Articulation: | 25 points |
There we go, felt like it was time for another Red X and this one was a comission just like my previous take on the character. Since then I started to sculpt and hide the points of articulation and with the new pastel paints I gave him some more cool shadings and highlights. As always, comes with an unmasked head and metal blades for his hands. Please wait... |

This is the set I use myself http://www.ebay.com/itm/221114323867
it has a few skin tones and lots of different browns that help with the shading but for Red X I purely stuck to white and black.
The technique itself is incredibly simple, all you do is scratch powder down from the chalk with a razor and then sorta dry brush the pigment on your sculpt and afterwards seal it with some spray varnish.
Two things to look out for, a) do not use oil based pastel but "soft pastel" and b) make sure that everything is clean. Acid and fat from your fingerprints will mess up your painting surface and that also means the water you use to clean your brush must be totally clean. I usually use paper towels instead of mixing plates for the paint now and I get the best results right after the initial base coat pain has dryed. You should check out my Dragon Age Tallis and Bane figures, these were at first painted with a variety of acrylics and then I applied pastel chalk to do the shading. Only Tallis' face has been painted purely on a white surface.
Search for "ball jointed doll face up" on youtube, this is where I learned this technique from.
