Custom Type:Statue / Bust
Toy Series:Hobbit
Creator:ZoltanMotherwell
Date Added:March 17, 2014
Base Figure:none
Height:12.00 inches
I started this bust a while ago, I already posted WIP pictures on Facebook so I couldnt enter the "Battle For Middle Earth" contest..

This is my rendition of Gollum from the 1977 Rankin/Bass animated movie "The Hobbit". I really like this design of Gollum; frog-like, just like Tolkien described.. For the Rankin/Bass animated feature "The Lord of the Rings" the design was changed a little, but enough for me to like the '77 Hobbit version better. For the base I thought it would be cool to make Gollum's cave with his hut and little boat. Sculpted from scratch. Thanks for looking :)

Pretty amazing. I still out the Rankin/bass cartoon on. To this day the designs have stuck out in my mind and are incredibly enjoyable in their own way. You did an amazing job here.

Glad you like it! The water was done by building up layers and layers of gloss sealent and transparant yellows and blues. It did the job

Very well done! When it comes to Gollum, like yourself, the 1977 animated version is definitely my favorite, as that was my first introduction to the character (Peter Jackson's version has nothing on this incarnation--he's just not inhuman enough). I really like how you went the extra mile to make his base a relevant part of the design, with the lake hut diorama, rather than taking the easy route and just doing a boring pillar or something.

While, like you said, it wouldn't have been eligible for the Battle for Middle Earth contest, as you've already shared it on Facebook, I definitely would have given it 5 stars had it been an entry.
