Started Mario maybe a year ago when there weren't and technically still aren't any decent Super Mario figures out. Used these ministatue type of figures listed as Sofubi and chopped it apart for the head, torso, hands, pant cuffs, and feet. The hands and feet are actually from the Luigi figure because of the difference in scale between the figures. So basically gave Luigi the bigger hands and feet of Mario. The arms are a mix of shortened Star Wars arms, base legs used to be lower legs from SW figures end on end, neck used to be a SW figure's elbow, donor barbell wrist joints came from Marvel Superhero Showdown necks, and barbells for the ankles came from the hips of Marvel Universe figures. Just a crapton of x-acto fu and dremel work to put the parts together. Sculpted over the legs, collar, and resculpted any missing details on the sides of the torso just under the armpits using Green Stuff. Painted up with Testors Acrylics.
Articulation is as follows: Swivel hinged neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. Double ball socketed wrists and ankles.
First I gotta say I was wicked happy to log on today and see a post from you my man ! It's like an early "eye-candy Christmas" whenever you do lol. But awesome awesome work, what's great about this is the amount of different pieces is hidden because you blended everything so smoothly. Those new Bandai Mario accessories coming out could possibly be utilized for a nice display!
Phenomenal! I was literally just trying to work out a way to make a proper Mario, and came to the conclusion that it just wasn't possible given my current knowledge/style of customizing. And here you are pulling it off perfectly. So much work involved and it shows. He looks fantastic!
It really took me a bit to find a decent Mario that sorta scaled well with the Figma Link and Samus. If the SH Figuarts one isn't your cup o' tea, give it another try if possible.
Haha yeah, I must have finished Mario well before the SH one was announced and I've totally got that figure plus accessories pre-ordered. Hoping they announce a Luigi, Bowser, and Yoshi too.
