Being the broke guy that I am I'm always shuffling through flea markets and old shops looking for fun cheap toys. When this contest was announced it gave my casual browsing a more 'mission' feel (I love that). While shopping at a local rummage antique store that also sells all sorts of toys I came across this super ugly bootleg HE-MAN figure. He was so odd looking and corny I knew I could do something to him for the contest. One whole dollar was spent and off to the work bench he went. I don't know why but I thought it would be awesome to make him bald with a grown out long hair. With summer approaching I thought it would be neat to make him an ageing surfer. Like a local odd ball character who lives at Venice Beach, CA and is on the waves 365 days of the year. I sculpted the shirt, shorts, belt, modded the head, and modded the wrist guards. His feet were also modded and I implanted small lead weights in his feet to balance him out so he could stand. Before I did that he couldn't stand at all. The surf board was just made from bossa wood. THANKS for taking the time to check him out and vote!
This one was my personal favorite I used to have that bootleg wwf Big John Stud figure..and best of all the restoration of a figure no one cares about & the transformation to a collectible
I think you really grasped what this contest was all about. Taking cheap figure and turning him into something fun. And I like that he's original and not a super hero or something.
