Well, this is not the sexiest of characters to make. But we all can't make hot female characters all the time.....lol Some of us have to make important supporting cast characters that happen to be an old man. I've always been fond of what Kenner did with the Timmverse stuff in the 90's compared to anything mattel has ever done. Kenner's figures were better quality, sculpted instead of painted details & they usually were pretty on point with the head sculpts. Towards the end of the line when they knew they were losing the license they just started pumping out any figure they had already made & putting them in box sets. I think some of them were rejected sculpts but since they were losing the license they just brought them out anyway. That new Ivy, Batgirl, Ventriloquist, these figures had some major design flaws to them. Also Alfred. The head sculpt on Alfred was done very well. Unfortunately his body was the problem. He was just too big, he was bigger than Batman. That figure is pretty tough to come by. I bought one in the 90's when he came out & that's all I had. So I never wanted to destroy the only one I had by tearing him apart. Well Thanx to Stew for making a head cast of Alfred that problem was taken care of. I got a head cast from Stew & he sent me some extra arms of maybe the small suit body? Well that got the gears turning. For this project I used one of those TNBA mattel Joker's that I've been picking up for $3 at the closeout chain in my area. I boiled & popped the arms & head out & the Alfred head fit pretty good on there. I measured it up & the arms would hold the tray perfectly that came with the Kenner Alfred. So then I had to grind away some of the Joker details & sculpt Alfred's butler suit & cuff links. Alfred's tails are longer so I cut them out & extended them using kneadatite & apoxie. I also felt that Alfred stood more in a proper stance so I wanted to get rid of the wide stance. Much like I did with my TNBA Ventriloquist, I carefully heated up the legs with a heat gun & made the figure have a closed stance. I took the hands & drilled holes in them so he could hold the tray from the Kenner version & then it was time to paint. Like I said, not the flashiest of customs, but he is a major player in the Batman Universe. Now I have a pretty much scale accurate Alfred on my shelf. Please wait... |
