Due to the way the license is set up, NECA wasn't allowed to make a straight 7" figure of Michael Keaton's Batman portrayal from 1989. The only way they could do it is to paint it in the old NES video game colors. I decided to change it and repaint the entire thing to look like the movie. This involved taking apart the entire figure, including removing the head from inside the cowl (yes there's a full Michael Keaton face under there). All the pieces were prepped, and then painted. I even put detailing in the face, including the black makeup around the eyes. For the cape, I dediced to do something extra. I took some black rayon material, and used a movie accurate cape pattern to make it. I then made a second cape, and added some wires running through the top for Batman to hold in his hands outstretched to mimic when he first appears in the movie. And now this custom Batman 1989 action figure is ready to take down the criminals of Gotham City!

Hello, I am trying to customize my own NECA Batman video game action figure into a 1989 film realistic looking figure. Could you please tell me what kind of paints and brand of paints you used on your custom? Thanks!

Batfantastic! Great stuff. I just came on here specifically to see if someone had done this and there he was! Excellent and this has more than convinced me to buy this figure. Can you provide us with a bit more info on how you removed the head from inside the cowl? I also plan to have a go at this at some point (don't worry - won't upload it here) but not until Jan/Feb as we won't get this figure in the UK until then boooo!

Calm now people, it's just a repaint!

It looks good, but the belt is too yellow...

I've seen the suit in person. It's the right color. The pictures make it look a tad brighter than it is, because I did apply a dark wash to it.

And I wouldn't say it's just a repaint, personally.

I agree this is NOT just repaint. Just now I am having a hard time just taking off the cowl to paint the face and yellow is such so hard to paint on...

Gotta agree. It's nice for a repaint but I don't get the "Genius!" comments. Especially since there are other people in this same thread saying they're doing the same thing.

I apologize for the comment. I honestly think it was rude of me.

This s a great repaint, though. The black paint looks like factory rubber. Which is perfect!

despite the rudeness you technically, are indeed correct, lol. The belt is too Yellow. Im not sure what suit you've seen in real life MC, I've seen the suit in person too, and the belt should be a muted dark gold. That said it does look fantastic. Every part of the figure SCREAMS ToyBiz, the bright belt, the semi gloss look, even the lighter paint on the face, which is just awesome! I can totally understand the pictures making the belt look lighter too, I had that problem with mine.

There's a picture on my video. It's not much to look at. It's a face and a peg, there's no hair or ears.

Looks fantastic- I plan on immediately doing the same once mine ships! Since you've done it already, perhaps you could answer a question for me? I've read that some parts (particularly the cowl) are made of a softer plastic- did you have any issues with the paint staying tacky? What paint did you use?
