Hi everyone! With the new movie coming soon and with it new figures I was pretty dissapointed with the paint jobs.(or lack there of) Next up of many is the Iron Monger, the figure lacked the look of metal and was really just brown plastic. I primed him with Black Krylon Fusion and used a new paint that I was told about called Alclad II Lacquer, it is intended for model planes to simulate real metal and comes in various finishes. I used Stainless Steel for this big guy and I have to admit this stuff rocks, up close it really looks like metal not just paint. Please wait... |

Thanks very much! Alclad is very realistic but very delicate, the paint will not chip but actually rub off if not sealed properly. It can't be sealed by a coat of testors dullcoat either, must have a coat of future floor polish through an airbrush(That's actually what the company recommends and it works great). Its considered a Lacquer paint.
Thanks for the reply. The finished product looks amazing - but since I like to handle my figures, I'll probably stick with my Vallejo acrylic metallic paints. They still look better than Hasbro's metal apps.

No problem, I prefer Vallejo for the ease of use and quality but if you take the steps I mentioned(plus a good primer) the final outcome will be stronger than most any paint you tried. The sealer is a floor finisher so its super strong and meant to be stepped on.
Wow. That paint plus the sealant sounds great. I'll have to wait until I can get a proper workshop setup for that - I assume there's fumes with both, right? Any particular floor finisher you find works well?
You definitely need a particle filter mask, metallic paint particles build up in your lungs and they cannot filter them so it is dangerous. Future acrylic floor finish is the one and only I use, comes in a large size bottle for only a few bucks and will last forever.
