Good afternoon, fellow figure folks! Sorry I haven't posted in a bit. Had a 2-week internet outage, but we're back up and running now, and hopefully, over the course of this week, I'm going to finish my series of my more than complete Guardians of the Galaxy! Only four posts left, including today's figure. And who do we have today? None other than the last of our custom original Guardians lineup, the avatar of the Dragon of the Moon, the runner-up for the title of Celestial Madonna, a woman with absolute mastery over mind, body, and soul, one of the most highly trained, physically and spiritually perfect humans in the galaxy, the magnificent Moondragon! Several of the Guardians have costumes that the comic artists are simply incapable of drawing consistently. Jack Flag, Quasar, even Adam Warlock or Star-Lord occasionally have costume details added or removed on a whim. Then there are characters like Moondragon, who simply can't settle on one outfit, and change their clothes completely on a daily basis. Which is more realistic from a "this is my wardrobe" standpoint. Obviously, YOU don't go around wearing the exact same clothes every day, do you? However, for someone wearing a uniform for a job? A little consistency is expected. And that was my idea here, really. I wanted to make a Moondragon figure in her "standard" Guardians of the Galaxy outfit. Which admittedly, she didn't wear all that much, but I think it adds a certain consistency to the group as a whole. I started with a DC Universe Classics Star Sapphire I had lying around. The head was from an old school ToyBiz Marvel Legends Black Widow, and I'd just like to state for the record, with the hair removed, this head looks EXACTLY like Moondragon does in the comics. The slightly sloping eyes, the brow, the cheekbones, the ToyBiz ML Widow is the PERFECT Moondragon head. From there, all that was needed were some new hands, a belt, some minor resculpting (really pleased with those crescent Moon earrings), and a complete paint job, and this piece was in the bag! Really simple piece. Next up: We start on the new Marvel NOW! Guardians of the Galaxy! And then we're done! Can't wait to show you all the finished pic! Excelsior! ![]() |

Got me wondering how she'd fit into the MCU if they ever decided to use her.
I see two major possibilities, given the current MCU layout:
1) They rewrite the character and introduce her in the upcoming Netflix Iron Fist series. This wouldn't be terribly accurate to the character's comic history, but her backstory would fit in well with the whole "otherworldly kung-fu masters with super powers" background of Iron Fist and his enemies, and they already started establishing that sort of history with Daredevil (specifically Nobu the Hand Ninja, the Black Sky, and Madame Gao of the Steel Serpent clan who is from somewhere "a considerable distance farther" than China). Plus, Netflix's more lenient maturity threshold would give the character some opportunity to be violent, which is something she's known for. However, this would lead to her being more of a straight villain, and likely prohibit her from joining the Guardians, as to date, Marvel seems to keep the TV and movie stuff pretty segregated. Then again, what with the whole alien kung-fu masters angle, it could happen.
2) They rewrite the character and introduce her in a the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie as another of Thanos' "daughters." This would ALSO be inaccurate to the comics, but a bit closer: in the comics, Moondragon was the daughter of the man who would eventually become Drax. She was taken as a child by Thanos' father and trained by space monks to be a super human kung-fu warrior. In the MCU, you could just replace "Thanos' father" with Ronan the Accuser, and replace "space monks" with Thanos himself, and you'd have instant character development for EVERYONE. It gives more depth to Ronan because it would mean he knew EXACTLY who Drax was, and he was gloating not only because he ruined Drax's life, but because he knew that his daughter was still alive. It gives more depth to Thanos because now he has a personal connection to Drax. It gives more depth to Drax because he's going to have to fight his daughter without knowing who she is, possibly hurting her and then discovering the truth and agonizing about it later. It gives more depth to Gamora and Nebula because it will introduce another sister and probably shed some light on just what being a daughter of Thanos means. And it gives instant character development to Moondragon because we implicitly know her backstory already from the first movie, given what we learned from Drax and what we saw of Ronan, Thanos, and the attitudes/characterizations of Gamora and Nebula. It's practically a ready-made character already established by the first film. I see this scenario as more likely, but the "Thanos' evil daughter turns good and fights against him" has already been done (obviously) and we don't want two identical characters on the team, so to surprise the audience, the writers would have to shake things up by either making Moondragon irredeemable, just straight evil, or by having her switch sides but immediately die, or by having her switch sides but GAMORA dies. Either way, the status quo is maintained, and added drama.
Or of course, none of this could happen and they write her completely accurately to the comics, or go with something completely unforeseen and random, or not use her at all. This is just how I'd do it.
