Another figure I decided to do my own version of, instead of buying the expensive one (and overrated at that).

As soon as I saw the Odin figure shown at SDCC last year, I knew those boots were perfect. The torso was so-so.
Upon release, I tried using other ways of having a more comic-accurate torso, but couldn't figure out a way without extensive work and resculpting. In the end, I settled on sculpting many parts myself whilst keep the upper torso the same (despite being nothing like it is in the comics).

Recipe:

Head/Helmet: Casts of Ares BAF
Body: Odin

I sanded and sculpted over the lower torso, making a belt in the process to be more like the BAF. Painted black below the belt, sculpting straps and making a dagger/pouche from fodder.

I used the Destroyer arm with the normal Odin hand, painting it closer to the comic colours.

Sculpted onto the left hand, and the thing on the right forearm.
The spikes on the knees and right arm are cut off cocktail sticks and glued on. A LOT of work here.

Finally I painted the eyes to look dark and shadowy, but with the eyes glowing as he's enraged.

Sword is from fodder, and the axe is repainted.

Oh and lastly, I decided to leave the holes in the shoulders. It would involve sculpting over, then painting them to match the skintone and possibly doing more work than I wanted, which may mean repainting all flesh parts. But it doesn't bother me for my display needs, so never mind!

Thanks for looking!

Looks awesome, so awesome I'm trying my own take on it. What did you do about the head fit...my Ares head is way to loose.

Thanks! I just dremeled a cavity to fit it on. If yours is too loose, there's 2 things you can do. Put some apoxy sculpt inside or if you know how - some hot glue. Put some vaseline or olive oil on the neck peg and then test fit the head on. If it's too loose still, repeat. If it's too tight, try removing some and try again.

Thank-you! What I found out for this, is make sure you sand enough of the abdomen joint to prevent rub there, and maybe the elbow joints need careful attention too. The logo can be annoying, but you can do your own take on it, and make it look fantastic.
I'm a fan of the distressed/weathered look like the Punisher logo when it's sprayed on his armour. You can easily make it stand out by carefully painting it like it's been scuffed from repeated battles etc, which helps if you're not comfortable doing crisp logos that can take too long.

Trust me, you do have something better there. I have the BAF and yes, it was indeed overrated from day one, because I have never much cared for it. Aesthetically, this is far more satisfying and the work you did came out just fine. If we're gonna have an ARES that is this big, than this last ODIN wave did indeed give us perfect parts for im. Both the abdomen and the brown on the Destroyer arm look great. Be proud. It's better than the BAF.

Thanks very much Phin. Yeah the existing figure is nice, but a bit plain to be honest, and tall like you said. This one fits in great in my Dark Avengers collection.

Thank you very much. I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't get it right. I'm too anal about stuff like that.
