Having a sizable collection of Green Lantern figures in the 4.5 inch scale, I really needed to bulk up the ratio of female membership for my collection. Had Boodikka stayed with same look she had during the 90s, she never would have been one of the female Lanterns I'd pick, but since she got her redesign after the return of the Green Lantern Corps, she's grown on me. I was pretty much working from memory when I started trying to figure out what figure or figures I was going to use for a base, so I initially was going to use a Deathbird figure I got for cheap. The I came across the Snowbird figure, and she pretty much had the right look, at least in her headpiece, which seemed most important, since Boodikka had a fairly standard body type. I watched Ebay for a few months until a cheap Snowbird figure came up, then I swooped on it and got to work. Upon seeing the Snowbird figure up close for the first time, I was struck by how this was probably one of the sexiest female sculpts I'd ever seen in an action figure. It reminded me of old Howie Dard comics. I can't remember for the life of me now why I didn't end up using the figure's body, probably because the body-type struck me as too slender. I had an old carded Northstar and Aurora figure set laying around that I'd bought years ago on clearance, with the intention of making the Wonder Twins, but never having gotten around to it, so I tore that open, as Aurora had the right type of hair. The head consists of Snowbird's head, with Aurora's hair, and Snowbird's face-mask, somewhat trimmed down. For the body, I used Aurora's body, since while I was 50% sure that it was the exact same sculpted body as Snowbird's, the other 50% was sure Aurora's body was slightly larger. Normally, when building a custom figure, a build up the body part by part, from the ground up. As I was able to just use Aurora's stock body, everything was already put together, and I quickly discovered how difficult painting the pieces of an intact body can be. Getting at the areas where the arms and legs met her suit was a nightmare, and I didn't own a small detail brush yet, so that certainly didn't help. I used simple masking tape around her arms to make the bracelets, which came out looking just fine after a few coats of enamel paint. I was using Google image search to look at reference pictures of her, noticing that while different artists seemed to draw her modern Green Lantern uniform fairly consistently, her flesh tone seems to vary wildly, from very pink, to pretty much normal Caucasian, which is weird to me, since I remember in the 90s she always seemed to be drawn pale white. Whatever. I wanted to emphasize that she was NOT a human, as the human percentage of my Green Lantern Corps figures is already disproportionately large, so I went with a nice, hot, neon pink. When I'm building my Green Lantern Corps customs, I always try very hard to get the figures scaled right, so I was shocked when a quick Google search revealed her height was only listed as 5'8. That's smaller than me. That just didn't seem right. She always struck me as particularly large. A good chunk of the pictures I've seen of her involve her picking up guys by the collar and lifting them up in the air. Her Cosmic Teams trading card pictured her lifting guys up and then slamming them down THROUGH concrete. She banged Lobo, for crying out loud, there's no way she can be dainty. The Green Lantern Movie Bios listed Boodikka as being 6'10, so that's the size I decided to honor. It just seemed more in line with her character. When you put her next to a Justice League Green Lantern or Super powers Hal Jordan figure, that's the approximate size she pulls off. I got Boodikka's belt logo from some stickers meant for making custom Lego men, but Legos suck, so I bought them for making custom Green Lantern figures. Overall, the Boodikka figure was a success. She retains her full posability, though her hair obviously limits her a bit around the neck. I only just now realized her boot-tops are slightly different than I'd thought, having found a clearer picture of her legs while making this listing. I may go back and fix that as soon as I figure out the best method for creating the right look. For now, she's done though. ![]() |
