Well...Seems I've been in quite a Movie Masters mood lately...Normally, I don't make lots of the same custom back-to-back, but in this case, I've been commissioned to make two Dawn of Justice Batman figures (normal suit and desert camo) in the past month and then when I saw the pics of the Comic Con DOJ two pack, I KNEW I was gonna have to fix that awful Batman figure...just on principle. The Superman from the two-pack is GREAT. Batman is a well-made figure, but he's all wrong...no texture, wide-eyed, silver instead of grey. I mean COME ON MATTEL!

So here is the fix to the best of my ability. I began by removing the ridiculous cape (a cape that literally rolled up on itself) and began the process of sculpting the mulsculature and texturing on the costume. It wasn't as easy as I'd anticipated though. I also had to very carefully remove the belt. Used a sharp exacto blade and sliced it off and then glued it in place a little lower down. Now, the base body was already beefy so I had to apply the new muscles and texture very thin. I think, in the end though, it all paid off. I considered aligning is ankles with his knees but I'm really not good at that sort of thing so I left them as is.

Also gave him a nice hand-stitched pleather cape that hangs nicely but is still pliable. Didn't go with wires this time, though. Then we get to paint...I repainted the eyes narrower and then repainted the face and added appropriate stubble. The lips were literally pastel pink...that ain't gonna work for Batman folks! From there I simply painted the suit a darker, but medium grey and then painted the belt black which I followed with a gold drybrush to give it that worn appearance. Finally, I constructed a grapple gun for him to go along with his batarang. The gun was a mix of parts from an Avatar Quaritch gun, an old Batman grapple gun, and some fodder bits. Now we've got a very imposing Batman who's beefed up, textured, and ready (in his crazy mind) to take on the Man of Steel!
