ABC Robot (2000 AD) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:75721
Name:ABC Robot
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:2000 AD
Creator:yugioh123abc
Date Added:August 12, 2015
Base Figure:NFL Cleatus figure
Height:11.00 inches
This guy is HUGE, and he was a serious undertaking. When I saw Loosecollector's Red King figure, I knew that the base figure would be perfect for an ABC Robot. I originally intended to use parts from the Chinese bootleg vinyl model, but when I received it, I found that a lot of the detail on the model had been lost from being recast over and over. I ended up only using the head and guns on top his right hand. It's pretty off-model from the 1995 Judge Dredd movie, but I think it captures the essence of the character pretty well. Anyway, I painted the whole thing grey with reddish-brown paneling, and then I did some silver drybrushing and few black washes in order to make him look like the dirty old piece of junk that he's supposed to be. He's too big for my shelf so I had to take the pictures outside. Hopefully all the details are visible.

Far as tank treads go, try getting some thin sheet styrene, or maybe cut up some trading card plastic protectors into little rectangles, then glue those on to emphasize the tank treads.

Those bootleg models are always disappointing, they were always full of pits or had mushy details when I bought them, glad you could salvage some of it at least.

I may try something, but I'm happy with him for now. It was quite a shock to finally get that model in the mail and see just how crappy it was though.

Hey I think that looks great! You can always come back to it with more stuff as you find it anyway. Plus, the head really sells it and that's even if it weren't a great choice for a base body. I'd say you could go to heavier looking feet but an element that you really want to get in there are those kneepads - kinda like Dredd's actually. Excellent project though! ~phin

Thanks phineas! I was picking through some of the other pieces from the bootleg ABC model because I really wanted to use more of them. They are so flat and bland though. I really wanted to use the feet with the tank treads but there is almost ZERO sculptural detail on them! Also, the pieces from the model are made of a really soft vinyl, so I didn't want something so flimsy supporting the entire weight of this guy. And I know what you mean about the knee pads. I may go back and try to add those in actually. One thing you can't really tell from the pictures is how massive the feet actually are on the NFL base figure though.

When you're dealing with a character that massive, sometimes just getting the silhouette right can be tough, but you picked a perfect base figure. That thing would be an instant buy if it were in stores, if only just to have an example of sweet weathering on the shelf. (now I regret not getting one or two of those bodies when they were on steep clearance a few years ago!)

If you ever feel like torturing yourself, maybe try cutting away some of the chest panel and glue some dangling cables in there.

I found the NFL guy on ebay for $10. There's still some cheap ones out there! I just wish I could post more than 3 pictures to show off some close-ups.
