I made the first version of this (we will refer to that as "the prototype") almost two years ago, to have new material for an exhibition, and people loved it, that's why I decided I should cast the figs since many wanted to buy it. what I'm sharing here is a modern copy, the prototype is a bit rougher and the puddle doesn't look as good, also the Mario figure is different.

I love Super Mario 64!! I got hundreds of fond memories from my childhood with it. the Cool Cool Mountain level was one of my favourites and that's how the idea for this dio came to my mind.

when I decided to make more I remade the Mario figure, I needed a different pose to cast him so I do cast it and then cut the arms to change the pose. I also made him look better since the original was a bit uglier, I tried to get a low detail look close to how Super Mario 64 looks hence why I made the hands just round and also he stands with his legs a bit open and curved (as he did in the game) now the big penguin (momma penguin) is the same one I made for the prototype (that means I broke the original) I casted it as well as the baby penguin.

the base is made from wood, carved, sanded and with texture work, once I have the figures and the base ready, everything gets painted with acrylics and then I have to glue all on the base, the only trick is with the big penguin, I sculpt his feet on the base and glue him on them, the figures are safely attached to the base since I make holes through the whole piece of wood and put metal rods through it that reach inside the figures, the last detail to be added is the puddle, which is clear resin with just a tiny little bit of blue.
