I have a few 3D printed heads for action figures, and what better fantasy to live out than the life of merciless bounty hunter, Boba Fett! I used a resin cast of the Jango Fett helmet from the black series line and had to hollow out a bit further with the dremel to get the proper fit. Although extremely thin, the resin still holds a solid, inflexible structure. I found the head sat too high on the shoulders so I used a grinding wheel on the dremel to remove the neck entirely, shaved down under the ball joint as much as possible, then glued back on. I was able to retain most of the articulation, and I sculpted in the gaps. At this point, I decided to go with the ROTJ paint scheme. This being my first custom, I admit I have no idea how to apply a wash effect, and failed quite miserably on my first go. I ending up painting the entire jump suit a darker grey then dry brushed with a lighter grey. Probably more labor intensive than a wash, but I am quite pleased with the results. I moved the pouches to the hips for a more accurate movie location, resculpted the gaps on the belt, and repainted the gauntlets and jetpack. I grabbed a cheap yard of green scrap fabric from the store for 1.25 and used it to create a new cape which was simply glued into place. I added a bit of weathering effects to both guns, his holster, and helmet to finish off the figure. Now both my son and I get the enjoyment of Dad as one of the best baddies in the universe. Thus, Joeba Fett was born. Thanks for taking a look! ![]() |
