I tried to go a little steamier with this raygun than it's predecessor. The base is a toy pirate gun that I thought had potential. every thing else is hardware or craft store junk cobbled together to complete the look.
You aren't the first to mention adding more Brass. I bought a few of the toy guns aused as a base so I may make some duplicates with alternative color schemes.
My only suggestion would be to add some woodgrain look to it. perhaps in the body, or maybe that brown grip. A dark mahogany color with brass fittings always works great in a steampunk look.
