Kurt Busiek's Astro City grabbed me in a big way when it came out 20 years ago (yikes). I was a poor ski bum and needed a mythos to wrap my head around. Kyle Raynor was the only Green Lantern, Superman had a mullet, and Hawkman was lost in limbo. Onslaught had swallowed up the Avengers, X-Men plots were convoluted to say the least, and Deadpool confused me to no end. The Big Two were a bust, so I started buying indie stuff. Wildstorm had some good stuff going, but the plots were thin. I picked up issue 9 of Astro City and was hooked. Jack-in-the-Box is a completely repainted Dr. Impossible with a Hobgoblin bag and some craft store hair; rest is sculpted. Don't be too harsh!
