So here's the story...

This was a Christmas present I made last November (2015). My son (6yr old) wanted a MODOK for his Marvel Universe collection. So he asked "Santa" for one. I didn't know what to do as this isn't made (and the Legends version is just way too expensive). So I took one for good ol' Santa team. I custom made a MODOK and even repackaged him in his packaging to make it look new... just so my son could rip it open and "believe" again in good ol' Saint Nick! I swallowed my pride and let Jolly Kris Kringle get all the thanks. I just interpreted it as "Thanks Dad!"

Totally worth it! :)

::::::RECIPE::::::::

BODY: I used the Playmation MODOK figure as he seems to be a decent scale for the Marvel Universe figures.
ARMS/LEGS: The Playmation arms/legs were a complete joke. So I used some broken G.I. Joe arms/legs with some sculpting clay to implement them.
HAIR: I sculpted the hair.
OTHER: Other things were sculpted and add detail to the big chair.
PAINT: I gave a huge paint makeover as the Playmation was quite "bland" if that makes sense. I used Vallejo acrylic paints.

It is a great addition to the 3.75" Marvel Universe collection. Not sure if he should go with the Avengers set or the XMEN. I'm not totally familiar with MODOK and his origins.

WOULDA/SHOULDA/COULDA: I wish I could have implemented a red light in the forehead somehow like he is shoot lasers. Rig it up to a button. But I'm not talented enough for all of that yet. Maybe have a clear red tinted piece of plastic in the forehead part, and a back lit light placed inside of him. A button on his back. That would be awesome.

I hope you enjoy!

Man, this is an AWESOME MODOK! Which figure did you get the arms and legs from?

Hey thanks! Actually, they were just some Big Lots military action figures. I snagged the arms and legs and with some sculpt, applied them to the MODOK figure. For the control handles on the chair, I had 2 knives from MU Warpath. I cut the blades off leaving the handles which I thought looked like joy sticks for the chair. I put them in the hands, add glue to the bottom and placed them so they would be in good reach for the arms/hands I added.

I'm glad you enjoyed! Check out some of my others. I'm about to work on some unique characters that my son and I came up with. They are some gross villains. We are thinking of calling them the Nasty Squad. We have 7 characters so far. Their rival heroes would be the "Cleaning Crew". Ha!

Man, that's... devotion! I question whether a six year old wouldn't just have been fine with the Playmation MODOK (I also wonder how the custom paint and sculpt will stand up to a child's roughhousing), but I can't say I don't admire your commitment.

Yeah, I was hoping to create something he could hold on to for years to come so I wanted it to look awesome (and I just enjoy making figures). My son(s) definitely rough house with their action figures. You should see the play set I built them (8ft wide by 3ft tall city). Its got little buildings and crash scenes and all. The wall break out with magnets, etc... I may post some pics now that I'm mentioning it. My son(s) have a blast on that thing and beat the snot out of their figures. But the aftermath of the figures after a year it actually quite impressive. The photo(s) I've been posting lately are of old figures that have been played with for the last year (with the exception of my Groot and Agent Venom... those are new customs). So the pic you see of MODOK here is after a year of rough playing. There is a Morbius figure I will be posting soon that was one of the first customs I did over a year ago. He has a scratch on his back arm, but I just tapped that spot with some paint and VIOLA! Good as new! Took about 1 minute to fix him up.

Ha ha! Eventually I get to the point where I have to ask myself am I "really" doing for him or is it for me? This one was fun to do. You can pick up those Playmation figures now for about $5. I saw them recently at a Five Below store. Walmart has them on sale too. Thanks for the comment!
