This was originally going to be my submission for the Phoenix Force Custom Contest; but since no one entered I decided to not submit this figure. However I'm still happy with how it turned out and wanted to share it with everyone.

I thought the idea of Dr. Doom chasing the power of the Phoenix was a cool concept since he's always looking for sources of power to steal and exploit whether it be a Cosmic Cube or the Silver Surfur's board.

I also wanted to pay tribute to one of my biggest inspirations in action figure customizing: Mr. Craig Warrack. He himself made an amazing original design of Dr. Doom (along with other figures) that you can find here on figurerealm, and if you haven't already I suggest you check out his page right now. His Latverian Throne Room blew me away and inspired me to model my Dr. Doom after his; using his base body choice of a Marvel Now! Captain America with Bleeding Edge Iron Man hands and the double belt design from the Sideshow Collectibles statue.

When designing the look I took note of the Phoenix Five from the Avengers Vs. X-Men story and tried to incorporate as many bird-like design elements into the armor as I could. Since the Phoenix is such a powerful entity I thought sculpting over a Marvel Legends Klaw's face would be a good idea since his mouth is open and it would look like Doom was screaming the way most anime characters do when they are charging up their power.

The entire figure was dremeled down and resculpted. I had never sculpted chainmail before and so it was a challenge but I'm happy with how it turned out. I added the tunic from Jon Snow, the center 'loin cloth' from the Odin BAF, the hand and elbow guards from Brienne of Tarth and the hood from Green Arrow. The foundation of the shoulder pads came from Lord Naga and were then added to with styrene sheeting that was warped with heat and sculpted over. The cloak is canvass with embedded wire for posing.

I combined various traditional hand and airbrush techniques for the paintjob, and sealed the whole figure with appropriate sealants.
