So up until this point I've never customized a figure before. I've been wandering the realm for a couple of years now and I decided to take my first crack at it. My dad's favorite video game is Doom from 1993 so I decided to make a custom of that. The basis is from the Doom cover art (minus his exposed belly) and the in game model. I was inspired by dsfkelly who also made a custom of the Doomguy. The base figure was the Marvel Legends Nuke, he had about the perfect build, pants and the headsculpt was dead on. I had to dremel his boots since the character has knee high boots. I sculpted the figure with Miliput and I used Citadel paints for the figure. I'm not 100% happy with the sculpting, as you can tell the sculpting is kind of rough. My fault for sculpting with toothpicks. I gave a buddy of mine the task to create the helmet. I gave him the second head that came with Nuke. First he had to dremel off his face since the sculpt would not look right. He sculpted the helmet and then made a mold of the helmet and then he painted the helmet. I had problems with the paint. The paint was flaking off as I moved the joints so I put this oily material on it which my friend had. It partial worked it made most of the paint stay but there was still paint rub. Painting the head was the most difficult part for me. Only tools I had were toothpicks and one paint brush that was too big for painting the head so I painted the head with a toothpick. I had another problem. My buddy cast the helmet and he made the peg hole size based off of a Star Wars Black Series figure but the hole was to small. We got it in the hole but it was ratcheting when the head moved and was a pain to take off so we kept enlarging the head and got a perfect fit. Overall I think the figure is good but my sculpting did unfortunately hinder some of the articulation such as the ab crunch and the bicep swivel. Since I sculpted the boots the boot swivel is no longer usable either. I didn't give him any weapons. My buddy sculpted a super shotgun but it was too small and we didn't have time to resculpt (we did this custom this week) Overall for my first custom I think it was good, I hope to learn from this experience. I had a great time creating it and my dad loved it. Happy holidays to you all and I hope you enjoy.
