Hi everyone, I decided to submit one of my older customs for the contest.

What you are seeing is my take on Optimus Prime or otherwise known as Convoy in Japan being repainted in the A Bathing Ape/Bape color scheme. A Bathing Ape is a well known Japanese clothing brand and they often collaborate with Takara Tomy to produce Optimus Prime in Bape colors mainly in light green color scheme although they have in the past issue Prime in both red and grey camo respectively. It was originally issued using the G1 mold and then using the MP-10 (Master Piece series) over the past few years. News is that a grey color scheme using the MP-10 mold will be available this year but only through raffles in Japan.

Anyway, back to topic.Instead of the usual Nemesis colors, I decided to try the Bathing Ape color scheme as I felt that the Nemesis scheme has been done too often and I also wanted to try something different. Seeing as Prime was only done using the G1 & MP-10 mold. I decided to use a Diamond Select Prime bust that I got second hand as the base figure

While the prepping work and basecoat (I used Citadel Caliban Green spray) was business as usual. It was the detailing that was a bit tricky due to it's weight. While the arms and base are detachable from the body, it still weighs quite a bit and you really start to feel the weight after holding the main body and base especially for over an hour to do the really detail parts. I don't use airbrush as the majority of the painting requires using a brush to get the details done so I actually have very little use for one.

I handpainted the Bape logo on to the right shoulder and to be fair it wasn't that hard as the logo design is very simple. I also handpainted Optimus's original name Orion Pax with Pax being on the front left shoulder and Orion on the back of the same shoulder. I used random Cybertron characters on the right back shoulder.

A coat of clear gloss was applied to both figureand base to protect the paint from chipping and to give it a gloss finishing.

Overall a little fun project and I am planning to do more Bape color versions of Prime using other figures.

P.S If you are wondering why one of the antennae on his head is chip off, It was already like that when I first brought it.

Thanks for viewing :)
