Hey everyone. I have finally gotten around to shooting the 4 customs I have completed over the past 2 months and am ready to reveal them. Of the 4 I made, 2 were for my Civil War movie figure display and 2 are Jim Lee X-Men. Figured I would reveal in order of completion starting with this handsome guy right here. May I present, Hawkeye in his Civil War duds.

I have always loved Jeremy Renner’s portrayal of Clint Barton. Although I have about zero love for Hawkeye as a character in the comics (call it my disinterest in the Avengers side of the comic book world), I really enjoy him in the MCU movies. I have recently set up a Civil War display in my figure cabinet and I figured I couldn’t go fully accurate without having the proper Hawkeye in place. Plus I’m happy he finally got a costume that at least features a decent amount of purple.

Hawkeye was made using pieces from multiple figures. The torso, upper legs, hands and right arm came from a Winter Soldier MCU figure, the knees from an MCU Nick Fury figure, the lower legs and boots from a Captain America MCU figure, the left arm, chest strap, bow and quiver from the bootleg Civil War Hawkeye figure and various casts from Casting Cave and ClayOrrnot customs for the head, ankle knife/holster and thigh gun holster.

There was quite a bit of sculpting involved with this Hawkeye figure. I sculpted lots of details on the torso and neck. I had to make more of the neck visible so that required me to use my dremel to sand down the details on the existing neck and resculpt around it. The jacket/shirt thing extends down past the waist cut so I had to sculpt that as well. I also had to fill in all the lines on the left shoulder as it was the Winter Soldier’s metal arm, put a sleeve on the left upper arm and sculpt straps for the thigh holster. I also modified the boots with apoxie sculpt, added details to both hands and sculpted the ends of the arrows that are in his quiver.

One area of this custom that did not end up working was the bow and arrow. Originally, I used the bow from the bootleg Civil War Hawkeye figure. I removed the plastic string and instead replaced it with a black hair elastic. I drilled holes in the end of each side of the bow, glued the elastic loosely in place, sanded down the excess elastic/glue and voila, bow with a real string. Unfortunately, while waiting to shoot all my new customs, I had my Hawkeye figure in an action post with his bow and when I went to remove it from his hand the elastic had stretched out and would not go back to its normal look, leaving the string droopy and sad looking. I initially intended on fixing it, however as I was shooting these pics the bow actually snapped in half so I had to sub in my Age of Ultron Hawkeye’s bow for the photoshoot. Bummmmmmmer.

Since making this figure, I have upgraded my paint game by utilizing an airbrush, however this guy is fully hand painted with a brush. I like painting movie figures. The level of detail is significantly greater, and the paint needs to be made to look realistic. So away with the overly bright and bold colors to make way for the dark washes and glazes to really bring the details to the forefront. This guy was no different. He got a full head to toe paint job, with a black wash applied to the entire figure (except the skin tone). Hawkeye has been one of the more enjoyable movie figures to paint. Love those purples!!

Overall, I’m pretty happy with this Hawkeye custom. Issues with his bow aside, this figure progressed smoothly and efficiently. He was a lot of fun to work on and is a welcome addition to Team Cap in my Civil War shelf display. Thank you for taking the time to check out my work. As usual, please feel free to leave your words below.

Oh and btw, my intentions are to post a new custom every 10 days or so for the next little while so I can catch up with my reveals. Be on the lookout for more to come soon!!

thanks man. I am aware the arm is backwards. I tried to fix it but the plastic around the peg is ripped and I'm worried I will ruin it beyond repair, so backwards it stays.
