Okay, here comes yet another figure in my Silver and Bronze Age Superboy collection, Stasis! Stasis was a colorfully clad gangster who attempted to extort protection money from Smallville's business owners (including Jonathan Kent) using his gang and his powers to stop the normal flow of all biological functions in an opponent and freeze them in place, which he briefly did to Superboy in Superman Family #192 (Dec, 1978). To do this figure, I took a DC Universe Classics B'Wana Beast and, using the boil and pop method, removed the head, arms, and lower legs. Next, I used my razor knife to cut the existing loin cloth off of him and separate the upper and lower body. Next, I mixed up a batch of Milliput to create the V-neck collar. When the Milliput had dried, I sanded it smooth. Next, I used my razor knife to remove the yellow shoulder pieces from a broken DC Direct Doctor Fate and then using my Dremel, I shaped them to fit onto the B'Wana Beast's shoulders. Once properly shaped and test fit, I glued them in place. Once the glue had dried, I painted the torso in Testors Acryl Gloss Green, Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow for the shoulder pieces, and Testors Model Masters Flat Black for the stripe. Once the paint dried, I gave the torso two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I took the head from a Mattel WWE Hulk Hogan figure and removed the hair. To create Stasis's helmet, I took an extra MOTUC Flogg head, and used my Dremel to remove Flogg's head from the helmet and sand off the bumpy details of the helmet. Next, I made up another batch of Milliput which I then put inside the helmet, and then pushed the hairless Hulk Hogan head into the Milliput to create a notch to hold it in place. When the Milliput had hardened, I glued the Hogan head into the helmet. Once the glue had dried, I made up another batch of Milliput to fill in the areas on the sides and behind the head to make it more solid and create the mask-like front of the helmet. When all of this Milliput had dried, I sanded it smooth and then created two notches in the sides of the helmet to accommodate the helmet's horns. The horns were made from the trident that came with a DC Universe Classics Blue Devil, that I cut and shaped to fit the notches that had been previously made in the sides of the helmet. Next, I glued the horns in place, and after the glue had dried, I applied some Tamiya Putty White over the helmet and then sanded it smooth once it was dry. To create a proper set of eye lenses, I cut the exiting ones out of the B'Wana Beast's head and glued them into the eye holes that I had previously made when sculpting the mask-like front of the helmet. When the glue dried, I applied a small amount of the Tamiya Putty White around the seams for the eye lenses and then smoothed that out with some sandpaper. With the helmet now nearly complete, I drilled a small, shallow hole into the forehead and then glued a craft bead into it to create the helmet's jewel. With all sculpt work now complete on the helmet, I commenced a full repaint of the head, using Testors Acryl Gloss Green for the helmet, Testors Model Masters Flat Black for the black stripe and mustache, Testors Model Masters Flat White for the eye lenses, and Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow for the horns and jewel. When all of the paint had dried, I applied two generous coats of Flat Clear to the mustache and two generous coats of Gloss Clear to the helmet itself. When all of the clear coats had dried, I glued the head in place atop the neck. Next, I took the arms from a DC Universe Classics Cyclotron, and repainted the forearms from the armor strap down to the fist with Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow. Next, I gave the newly created gloves two generous coats of Flat Clear. Once the Flat Clear had dried on both arms, I attached them to the torso. Next came the lower body. To create the proper look for Stasis, I took the lower legs from the knees down from a broken DC Universe Classics Red Robin figure, and using a small batch of Milliput, I created the boot cuffs. Once the Milliput had dried, I sanded the boot cuffs and then attached the Red Robin lower legs to the B'Wana Beast lower body. Next, I commenced a full repaint of the trunks with Testors Acryl Gloss Green and Testors Model Masters Flat Black, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I repainted the lower legs in a home brewed flesh tone paint that more closely matched the skin of the B'Wana Beast figure for the bare skin and Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow for the boots. When the paint had dried, I gave the lower legs two generous coats of Flat Clear. Lastly, I took the belt from a DC Universe Classics Hourman, and gave it a primer coat of light gray. When the primer coat had dried, I repainted the belt with Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. With all the paint work now done, I pried open the small hole at the bottom of the torso, and, after applying a little Testors Modeling Cement into the small seams, I reassembled the figure, and TA-DA...Stasis, enemy of Superboy!!! Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated. ![]() |
