The Daughter of the Demon always seemed like a no-brainer for Mattel. I mean, she is a Batman character, and pretty popular I believe, plus she's never really had a truly 'iconic' look in comics so Mattel could re-use and cut corners as much as they want. But then again, it took them forever to get to Ra's so I guess nothing should be surprising (still waiting on Vixen who was the only character pictured on their 75th Anniversary backboard that was never made into a figure).

So even though I had wanted to make a Talia figure for years I just assumed Mattel would make her...eventually. But since she's always had different outfits in the comics I wanted to make sure she looked like her earliest appearances. In Birth of the Demon her mother was described as being of mixed Chinese and Arab descent so I always thought she should have more of an exotic look (which she's been depicted increasingly less like in recent years). So when Zatanna came out I thought the head didn't really resemble Z much but would make for a nice starting point for Talia--even the hair seemed appropriate. I decided to go with what I thought was her most famous look, that being of her Batman: The Animated Series design, but I decided to forego the Veronica Lake-style hair curl covering her left eye instead choosing, again, the hairstyle she had in her earlier appearances. So she's a bit of an amalgam of various media appearances to what I think would be a decent action figure representation.

So as I said, I started with the DCUC Zatanna head and hair, and used the DC Universe Gotham 5-pack Catwoman body. I swapped out the lower legs for a pair from the Batman Legacy Silver Age Catwoman for the high-heeled boots. I added a collar I sliced off of a Marvel Legends Sharon Carter figure, and added a modified belt from a Funko Legacy Evolve Val figure. And then I held my breath during ToyFair a few weeks ago hoping Mattel wouldn't reveal a Talia al Ghul, but of course, why would they when characters with long, storied histories like Jim Gordon Batman still need to be made. But I digress.

Thanks for looking!
