The main reason I wanted to make a Rip Hunter figure is that Hasbro is releasing a movie Nebula Marvel Legends figure, and I wanted a Rory to keep Amy company, hanging around for 2000 years like the awesome husband he is. It was tricky trying to find a head that was a close enough approximate for Arthur Darvill. I initially tried using an unmasked Steve Rogers head, but that didn't fit the bill. I eventually went with a bootleg unmasked Deadpool head (I think it was meant to kinda resemble Ryan Reynolds) and heavily modified that, sculpting new hair and the moustache.
I used Winter Soldier as a base, and swapped out the arms for those from a three pack Nick Fury. Took the trench coat and the knees from Nick Fury as well. Sculpted over the top and used craft pleather for the straps and holster. For his pistol, I used the gun from Misty Knight and repainted it. Kept the right hand from Winter Soldier, but took the left from Doctor Strange. Thanks for looking!
UPDATED With the photo that is the purpose I made this custom!
Ah yeah you're right. Rory head would be a bit small. Sorry. I haven't any marvel legends bar Pizza Spidey and while he is displayed near my Doctor Who figures (Eleven, Amy and Idris, no Rory cos haven't found him cheap yet), Spidey is in a typical crouched pose and now I straightened him out he is a slightly larger size and height than Eleven. Still this Rip figure is really cool and easily recognisable as Rip.
Thanks, I'm glad you think so! Yeah, I'd very much want to stick a Tenth Doctor head on a Marvel Legends suit body to make Netflix Kilgrave, but he would look a little pinheaded.
Tricky finding an Arthur Darvill head when there are Rory figures available. :P But you didn't need it that much cos this turned out great and really looks the part. I watch Legends of Tomorrow and often ponder if Rip is really Rory Williams now with his own time ship. Rory's steady development into badass over those seasons of Doctor Who do lend itself to than fan theory anyways. Great work!
Haha, thanks! Unfortunately, the Doctor Who figures are in the 5 inch and 3 3/4 inch scales, and the heads from those wouldn't look proportionate on a Marvel Legends base body.
