I made this Rainbow Brite (POP) style figure using a vintage Peekablue figures body as a base & a vintage Glimmer head. She also comes with an extra head which I decided to give normal rooted doll hair. You can also see that head in my gallery. I started by cutting the head joint off the 2 figures as one had the classic wave one head joint & the Peekablue body had the wave 2 ball joint. I then attached the classic head joint to Peekablue’s neck. After that I sculpted her cuffs & boots in a similar style to Rainbow Brite’s iconic look. I did this using a product called Fixit Sculpt. Once the sculpt had dried I then repainted the entire body using Humbrol enamel paints. Next up was her outfit. To make this I got the pink section of the classic She-Ra ‘Fantastic Fashion’ called Rise & Shine, I used this section as a template to draw round & make a pattern for my Rainbow Brite’s outfit to make sure it would fit correctly. I then adjusted the pattern accordingly. At this point I got some fake leather & stuck a layer of blue self adhesive film on top of it. I then got my pattern & stuck it on top of the film with tape. Next I cut around the pattern. I then got some red holographic tape & attached it to the belt & shoulder sections of the outfit. Next up was her skirt. I got some blue tulle ribbon & applied some white puff texture tulip fabric paint along one of the edges of the ribbon. I then sot some iridescent fabric which came from the bottom of an old Crystal Barbie dress. I placed the ribbon on top of the fabric then hand stitched them to the belt section of the outfit (pleating it as I went). After that I drew Rainbow Brite’s logo on the computer & printed it onto some self adhesive paper which I then attached a layer of transparent self adhesive film for protection. I cut out the logo & attached it the front of her outfit. To finish her outfit off I attached 2 small popper buttons to the back of the belt section. The Glimmer head was rooted with Canary yellow doll hair which I styled using the boiling water method. The Sweet Bee head was rooted with a very fine silk string. ![]() |
